To co-ordinate international sales, growers, with the backing of government, created the single-desk marketing body Zespri. As the sole international marketer of New Zealand kiwifruit, Zespri is able to implement long-term marketing strategies to drive market demand and return a premium for New Zealand-sourced product.
Seeka has become a supplier of choice to our international marketer Zespri International through careful management of each season's crop to ensure we consistently supply product on time and to specification. We facilitate logistics between the grower and Zespri, managing post harvest, and ensures product is delivered on time and to specification.
Seeka also works closely with Zespri through collaborative marketing ventures to expand product demand by developing new retail opportunities which generate value-added payments to our supplying growers.
To lift grower returns from the rationalisation of the kiwifruit supply service, all produce from Seeka-affiliated grower entities is supplied through the Zespri-registered entity Integrated Fruit Supply and Logistics Limited (IFSL).
Seeka and other grower entities negotiate a contract with Zespri to supply fruit for international sales. Based on these negotiations, they then set supply contracts with grower clients, plus, in the case of the Seeka grower entity, a service contract with Seeka Kiwifruit Industries Limited. When setting the service contract, they examine Seeka's cost models and monitor the provision of services throughout the season.
