Frankly speaking - Week 22 Update

Please accept this report to the end of week 22 [Sunday 1 June].

We are in the home straight! Our teams should finish harvesting tomorrow and packing on Sunday - all things being equal. The weather forecast looks to be cooperative so we should get a straight run to the finish. The late fruit quality and yields has been good and the brix levels manageable.

Our pack-houses have been running at full capacity. They have appreciated the better quality lines that have come through recently as they have still had to contend with some hail lines. Generally the sheds have been settled and well into their work looking for that elusive last bin.

On the safety front, there was a nasty incident at Transpack last week. A cleaner leaned in against a machine and got her hairnet caught in a drive shaft. She subsequently lost a proportion of her hair. Thankfully this accident will leave no lasting damage and she will fully recover from this painful event. We have reemphasized our safety advisories for cleaners, especially our protocol for cleaning under machines which requires the machine to be stopped with a hold in place.

The statistics as at End Wk 22

Some sad notices

Margaret Moses – I am saddened to advise of the passing of Margaret Moses on Tuesday. Margaret worked for Seeka at KKP as a Quality Controller and was feeling unwell. She went home and sadly passed away. Her husband Wayne works for us, and her close family, Brenda Gordon, Frances Moses and Yvonne Moses all work for Seeka and have been with us for a long time. My deepest condolences have been passed to the family on their sudden loss and our thoughts are with them at this time.

Cathy Smith - You may or may not be aware but Cathy Smith is desperately sick. She has been a fantastic friend, work colleague of Seeka and Eastpack and member of our community. She has given a lot to us all over the years. The people of Eastpack and Seeka have combined to create an appeal for Cathy to help relieve the financial pressure they are under and uncertainty they face. A specific bank account has been set up a courtesy of Westpac and Julene Rae of Seeka and Lindy Potter of Eastpack have agreed to be signatories to the Account. Jenny Lee of BDO has agreed to provide accounting review services. The money will be used to help Cathy and the family with any residual funds being for the benefit of her son Matt. We invite you to donate. Any donation will be appreciated.

In case you might know Cathy and want to support her then the account details are as follows:

Westpac Banking Corporation

Account Name: Potter Lyndell Margaret, Smith Catherine Ann, Rae Julene Ann

Account number: 03-0474-0737987-000

Rajwinder Puni and Harminder Bhaskar – similarly our thoughts are with the families of Rajwinder Puni who works as a Grader and Harminder Bhaskar who works as a Quality Controller at Main Road. Both had children and family caught up in the dreadful accident last Thursday in the Kaimai’s. Rajwinder lost her 8 year old daughter in the accident and her 12 year old son is in a critical condition at Starship Hospital.  And Harminder‘s sister Rajbir and Harminder’s 5 year old son were seriously hurt in the accident likewise our thoughts are with her. We have offered our support to both families of this terrible accident.

Close

Thanks to everyone for your efforts – we are now on the push for home. Hopefully better next week.

Kind Regards

Michael
