Hail Event
7 November 2014

HAIL !,

Some of our catchment has experienced hail over the last few days.

Orchards in the Welcome Bay road/Kairua Road region have experienced significant damage across both kiwifruit and avocado blocks.

Growers are urged to check their orchards for any damage.

For kiwifruit orchards, Client Relationship Managers, are available to help check orchards, and coordinate the notification of KPIN’s effected through to Zespri for insurance purposes.  This notification needs to take place within 72 hours of the event. Technical and husbandry advice from Murray Judd and our technical team will follow this bulletin.

For avocado orchards, we suggest growers contact Lynnaire or Jonathan so that they can give technical advice and assistance. Jonathan has prepared a ‘hail fact sheet’ for growers that will follow this bulletin.

Orchards that are managed or leased by Seeka are being checked and an appropriate remedial plan is being put in place and owners notified.

Please be assured that growers will have full support of the Seeka team through this process.

Regards,

Simon Wells
