Welcome to our week 20 update. We have now completed the SunGold harvest for 2019. Our harvest ran for 10 weeks, our client relationship managers and schedulers have proactively worked with growers to optimise the harvest opportunity. Our thanks to our contractors and growers for a pretty smooth run with the harvest. Like any harvest there are some learnings and some things to improve to deliver a better performance in 2020
Our attention is now on mainpack Hayward including organic and conventional. Brix’s are now entering the zone and we are targeting lines for storage, as well as identifying fruit suitable Controlled Atmosphere storage. We intend to be uncompromising and will put fruit into store only if we are perfectly happy with it. Hayward continues to pack-out at lower than estimated. Harvest is scheduled for a late May completion.
The Sweet Green shipping programme is complete with 100% of our inventory having been shipped.
The first of the feedback from the markets has commented that the fruit tastes better than last year. Fruit quality on arrival in market is on average consistent with last year, but there is more variability in the outturn results. Shipping for Zespri SunGold is scheduled to go late, post week 40 and we are cautious about the effect on late Hayward sales, although this lower volume season should see Hayward sell through and sell out earlier.
