Frankly Speaking – Week 21 Update
Please accept this Grower Update to the end of week 21 [Sunday 24 May].
Another good week of packing operations in week 21.During the week we completed 636k trays of controlled atmosphere (CA) and bin-store fruit as well as packing some 2.7M trays of Hayward conventional and 275k trays of Hayward organic. We also loaded out more than 1M trays of Hayward. It was a big week, and one that was completed safely.
Brix development has been steady but should speed up now that colder weather has arrived. For those of you outside New Zealand a Southerly blast has brought cold weather including fresh snow in the North Island.
Fruit quality continues to be exceptional. Sooty mould is now showing in the reject reports but overall rejects remain low compared with other years. Our post-harvest teams have appreciated the effort made in the orchard to deliver a clean crop. Thank you again.
Harvest is still expected to be completed around 9th June.
We had a tractor incident during the week when a driver clipped the shelter and broke bones in his hand. It’s a reminder that we must remain vigilant with our safety focus.
