Frankly Speaking - Week 28 Update

Please accept this Grower Update to the end of week 28 [Sunday 12 July].

Zespri reported good sales rates for both Hayward and Sungold at the Seeka Growers meeting this week. Overall the Industry is approximately 10m trays ahead in sales at the end of week 27 with some impressive sales of Sungold in particular; but pricing is softer than last year. As a result the Industry is looking to ship its last Sungold fruit in week 35 – around 3 weeks earlier than planned. Hayward is ahead of last year but the shipping season will extend late in the year with last shipping expected at week 49.

KGI came and talked to the Seeka Growers Council about its proposed rule changes that Growers are being asked to vote on and up-coming AGM. I would take this time to encourage you to retrieve your voting papers and vote. And if you would like some direction then the Seeka Growers Chair has emailed you separately with some insight. I would encourage you to read his summary before voting.

Thank you to all of you who attended the Grower Updates last week. A copy of the presentation is available to you on the grower login at the Seeka website. If you are unsure of your grower login, please call Stephanie Kivell 07 573 0303. Importantly Seeka has updated its view current year forecast OGR’s.

So far the inventory this season is performing well and to date better than 2014. Seeka has reported to its growers that managing some Hayward fruit at Oakside with lower average fruit pressures.  This inventory has been prioritized to best optimise the fruit quality to market and minimise any onshore fruit loss. We have notified our insurers just in case there is any of loss arising. However to date we have managed to stay ahead of any issues and our recent inter-check out turns have been quite ok. It is a matter of making sure we are disciplined and move the right fruit next to optimise the fruit to market. Also Seeka has dispatched Jim Dunseath to Europe to oversee our fruit arrivals and to steward our fruit in the market. We will work constructively through any issues on a case by case basis should there be any. But so far so good.

The principle market for the remaining inventory is Australia. Zespri is checking the inventory across the Industry prior to ordering it and we are waiting our last orders to clear this fruit out. Seeka Growers asked about any potential extraordinary quality claims and understand that this is unlikely.
