Welcome to our week 21 update. Despite the disruption to harvest last week due to the weather the SunGold harvest has completed, and the Hayward harvest is just over 50% complete. The turn in the weather has seen the brix levels lifting and they are now on average between 8.0 and 11.9. The first of the Controlled Atmosphere [CA] rooms have been completed. The continued loading of the CA rooms this week will enable us to get more of the fruit into store in this optimum brix window.
Over the weekend there was a significant event on one of the orchards where a tractor was driving out of a row with full bins onto a sloping headland. A combination of the downward slope and the weight of the bins pushed the tractor and trailer off the headland into the bush. As a result the tractor driver sustained bruising to his leg, fortunately in this instance the injuries were not serious. This incident is a reminder to have daily discussions and if language is a barrier use an interpreter.
