Frankly Speaking

Frankly Speaking - Week 13
2 April 2018

Welcome to our Easter weekend update. Sheds have been operating throughout the weekend running where we have had fruit to pack. The fruit flow is hand to mouth and at times we are hot packing off the trucks while we push to pack everything possible by the midnight cut off times. We are pretty satisfied with our progress so far.

There has been no significant safety issues or incidents and the fruit has been very good with only a few exceptions. Thank you.

The “first-past-the-post” period of the Gold harvest is drawing to a close. The SunGold organic cap will close at midnight Tuesday 3 April. And Zespri have said that they will consider the SunGold conventional cap tomorrow when they get back from the Easter break. They have hinted that midnight Wednesday 4 April is the likely cut off. We will advise this when we know.
Loadouts are going well. At the end of our first week of shipping Seeka had loaded 37 containers. Total loaded is 462,158 trays so Seeka has travelled well in delivering fruit to the market.

Calling all workers

Generally, we are light for staff in all of our sheds, but are particularly short of people in our Te Puke based VLS Lab where we have got vacancies for 20 people for immediate start. Shifts start from 11am and the last shift ends at 9pm, with flexible hour arrangements available. If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact Annie or Dee at reception and they will connect you to employment. [07 5730303].

Our focus in the harvest now is to push on with the Hayward conventional first-past-the-post cap. Brix’s remain stubbornly in the low 4’s with only a sprinkling approaching the threshold. Cooler nights along with warm days are anticipated to bring the fruit on.
At the same time we anticipate to progress through the Gold harvest filling our weekly quota of fruit to be packed as it matures.

Please remember if you know of someone looking for a job – please ring!

Kind regards

Michael
