Frankly Speaking Week 43 Update [Sunday 30 October]
Please accept this update to our growers and stakeholders up to week 43. Our 2016 kiwifruit programme is entering its final stages. The Hayward conventional fruit in store now less than 500k trays and the final Hayward organic trays in store have been ordered. At this time of the year the time earnings and loss rates can fluctuate slightly depending on when our team reworks fruit ahead of loadouts.
In the latest sales report there is a small amount of the Gold 3 remaining to sell, with the price holding at 0.5% more than last year. The Gold 3 fruit quality at the very end of the programme has been an issue for some markets with increased reports of storage break down disorder being found in the fruit. But really we should be very satisfied with the SunGold programme. The supply chain has performed really well and the premium delivered.
While the Hayward conventional shipping programme is nearly complete, 20% of the crop is still remaining to be sold. The sales rates are good but there is still more than 5m trays to sell than the same time last year – a difference that hasn’t seemed to reduce. We remain hopeful of the sales rate holding up through to the end of the programme.
In the Hayward organics category there is 600K trays [15%] still to sell with the majority of the shipping programme completed.
Our team is working through the next revision of the individual grower forecasts. They are complicated this time and our team is carefully interpreting the information provided by Zespri. The published Zespri numbers include cost and loss reductions at post-harvest and these have already been factored in our earlier forecast to you. So our team is taking the time to ensure that our forecast is robust before we send it.
And to the numbers at midnight Sunday end of week 43 [31/10/2016]
Note – the shipped number last week for HWCK was not accurately reported, apologies for the confusion this may have caused. It would not have affected the estimate time earnings or the fruitloss reported.
Collaborative Marketing Hearing
As questioned at the Seeka stakeholder update; Seeka has made four applications for collaborative marketing for Hayward fruit, and one for Kiwiberry. Our applications included continuing programmes for AQV Malaysia and Wilkins China with new applications for China in market packing at Hainan Island and a reapplication for our previous Xinjiang program. A huge effort goes planning for, and applying for these programmes and we are hopeful of positive outcomes.
Kind regards
Michael
