Frankly Speaking - Week 46 Update

Frankly Speaking Week 46 Update [Sunday 20 November]

Please accept this update to our growers and stakeholders to the end of Week 46.

We are all done but the shouting. Seeka’s inventory is down to 23,082 trays of Hayward conventional trays in store and will be fully loaded this week. Our teams really made a big effort to load fruit last week, at a time when Zespri was struggling to fill orders. The industry still has some 503,000 Hayward trays on shore, with 246,000 trays on order for shipping. As predicted the difference between Seeka’s loss and the Industry loss rates have closed considerably in Hayward conventional and the Industry Hayward organic loss rates are higher than Seeka’s, an extraordinary result considering Seeka did not achieve its share of Kiwistart. Given the year, loss rates are very low.

More sales reporting has been received. These results show that at the end of week 45, the Industry still had 9.25m trays of Hayward conventional to sell and were 621k trays behind in sales compared to the same time as last year. At the same time last year Zespri had 3.4m trays to sell.

Zespri is selling at the rate of around 2.5m trays per week, slightly behind the targeted run rate of approximately 3m trays per week. So we are not out of the woods yet.

The numbers at midnight Sunday end of week 46 [20/11/2016]

Avocados are all go

Our teams have packed a total of 244,000 avocado trays in the current season. Market conditions remain excellent, in both the local and export markets. Early fragile fruit issues have been overcome and recent fruit quality has been excellent with packouts ahead of estimate.  Our team is packing up to eight containers of export per week, which are all being packed at Huka Pak.

Kind regards

Michael
