Welcome to our week 26 update. The weather, at long last, has turned colder. I must admit it was strange to hear a diehard grower at the squash club celebrating the anticipated frost event last Friday night.
It is still early in the storage season, fruit inventory remains very good and we are satisfied with the market out turns to date. We have packed the first 100k trays of binstore Hayward and had a very good packout.
Seeka is currently running a series of “Seeka after 5” roadshows and I invite you to attend one of the remaining sessions tonight at Huka Pak, tomorrow night at Oakside or Thursday night at Ohope. Seeka’s early OGR forecasts are included as part of the presentation. Thanks to those of you who attended last night at Main Road – an excellent turnout, an enjoyable evening and great questions.
There is a Pruning Field Day, and technical update this Friday at Makarena Orchard 180 Kairua Road – please feel free to attend.
Early market reports are starting to come through. Hayward sales are catching up to the forecast run rate after a later and slow start. The market mix along with the fruit dumping has impacted on the forecast returns for 2016/2017. Sungold sales have been strong, prices are slightly lower than last year, but are remarkable given the volume increase.
