MPI response to kiwifruit industryGrowers and stakeholders of Seeka. This evening MPI held a call across all essential food services, processors and producers in New Zealand with 95 critical Industries and companies represented. The Government has recognized the fundamental importance of food production and processing to New Zealand, but also that the containment of the COVID-19 virus as essential. The message is clear, we must contain the virus for the benefit of all New Zealanders. If we don’t then we will be unable to continue running, or some who fail will be removed. We must contain the virus, we must limit its spread and we must ensure our people are safe. Its non-negotiable. So long as we take all steps to achieve the measures to contain the virus then we will be able to continue to harvest and process fruit. And our contractors will also be able to operate. We must contain the virus and we must achieve and exceed the containment thresholds. As an example we must make sure that the 2 metre separation rule is achieved for our workers at all times, on their way to work, at work, during breaks, and out of hours. And much, much more. We will need to complete a register and honestly answer and contain. We must limit the non-essential people and exposure. All people at risk including those over 70 must be excluded. The good is we can keep going. We have a great team at Seeka and we will get the job done. And yet again the Government and MPI are responding really clearly and well. Kind regards Michael |
