Frankly Speaking - Week 23
11 June 2020

Week ending Sunday 7 June 2020

Welcome to our latest grower and stakeholder update - bringing you up to date with Seeka’s latest grower and industry . It’s a wrap - Seeka has now completed the 2020 kiwifruit harvest. It has been a remarkable season and without the support from the Seeka community we would not have completed the harvest in good time. Our thanks and appreciation to all the contractors, workers, service providers and people who contributed to this season.

The industry submit is at a record 159m trays and there is 20m more trays of SunGold than Hayward for Zespri to market and sell this year. The drought has impacted on the crop especially in the Coromandel and Katikati regions. The average size for Hayward conventional this year is 33.54 compared to 32.63 last year and the Hayward organic this year is an average size of 37.21 compared to 35.72 last year. In the case of organics, Zespri are reporting market challenges with the smaller than anticipated size profile.

Shipping continues to plan. Seeka has shipped 17.1m trays (55%), this leaves 14m trays in inventory. The latest forecast is for the Gold shipping to complete in week 43 and the Hayward in week 47. Fruit quality continues to tracking well with no issues to note.

Final 2019 Loyalty Payment

The loyalty payment, the last payment for the 2019 harvested crop is being processed and will be signed off by the Seeka Grower Council tomorrow and paid to Growers on Monday. Zespri will be meeting with the council to update them on how the markets are performing to date. Any Seeka Grower can attend the council meeting, your CRM can advise you of the timing of these each month.
