Frankly Speaking - Maturity testing
26 March 2020

This update outlines the approach taken by Seeka to coordinate maturity clearances with its supplying growers.

Our teams are in the final stages of transitioning the Te Puke VLS lab and establishing lab operations at Main Road Katikati and Kerikeri. These labs will be able to fully process samples and clear maturity areas. It is really important that we control our sample process and demand so that it aligns with each labs capacity.

Our priority is to sensibly clear and line all varieties up for packing and keep the sheds full of fruit to process.

We intend to coordinate the sampling centrally. Samples will be called for based on each maturity areas historical clearance date. The intention is to deliver results on the same day. Our initial plan was to have growers collecting samples. While this is appealing actually it doesn’t really make sense, as we need to deliver the sample bags. As it is only a 30 fruit sample to collect there is no real efficiency lost, and we need to maintain the social distancing rules.

Sample collection is expected to start tomorrow. We will communicate so you know what we are testing when. And we are carefully transitioning those maturity areas, that had failed through the Eurofins debacle to our system and making sure they are covered off. While we are centrally coordinating and have appointed a central person to coordinate our testing activities, please communicate with your CRM rather than the lab or anyone else.

In the next day or so we will communicate to you all about when we have scheduled your tests.

Results will be available via the Seeka app, which should be reported back to you on the same day as collection.

The focus is to have a well-co-ordinated monitoring programme rather than a rush on the labs and overloading capacity. Hopefully I have clearly communicated the process out to you all.

Kind regards

Michael
