Frankly Speaking - Week 35
2 September 2020

Week ended Sunday 30 August 2020

Welcome to this week’s edition of Frankly Speaking, Seeka’s update to growers and stakeholders.

Firstly, we would like to acknowledge and thank you for all the support we have received following the fatal van accident on Sunday 23 August. The six survivors are all going to be ok but it has been a tough time for them, including the second cancellation of their return flight home.

Please also accept our thanks to those of you who have contributed to support Vaetasi’s wife and daughter back in Samoa. Your generosity has already raised over $13,000 for their care, with Seeka and Mr Apple to contribute when the funds are transferred back from the Givealittle page into a Trust that Seeka has established for the benefit of the family. We will let you know the final tally when we get there.

During the week, Seeka held a memorial led by Turi Ngatai and invited all our Samoan RSE workers to attend, and we have blessed the site of the accident. Honestly having visited the site and having seen the wrecked van, we are very lucky not to be dealing with a much larger tragedy. And I must make the comment that our RSE support and pastoral care team have been nothing short of tremendous through this event.

In our operations, fruit performance remains good and load outs smooth noting that there has been some very big load out weeks. Across all categories, fruit loss is low and our offshore fruit quality good.

Our Grower Entities team have been working on the first individual grower forecast. Seeka has implemented a new software system to improve the reporting to you as growers and the forecast should now be with you.

To the numbers:

Kind regards and thanks for your support

Michael
