I apologise for clogging up your email with yet another Frankly Speaking Grower Alert but it is challenging and dynamic times as we cope with the pandemic, lock down and underperformance of the Eurofins Lab. This is an important update and I encourage you to read it and we will continue to communicate with you so that you are informed. Firstly, the Government has imposed strict protocols that must be maintained right across the Industry. We have communicated these to our contractors and already we are amazed by how our community has responded, adapted and moved to maintain the 2 metre rule, increase hygiene even further and maintain social distancing. Achieving and exceeding these protocols will ensure we continue to have the privilege of being able to continue with our harvest. In the latest curve ball, Eurofins has advised the Industry that they will withdraw the maturity testing service. While they have used the excuse that they believe they are a non-essential service, the reality is that in spite of some very good people in their lab, that their service was nothing short of a shambolic-disorganised mess. Zespri will shortly outline their solution for the Industry about how we will proceed with the harvest this year. There is a huge opportunity here to simplify and clear this mess up, but it’s going to take some compromise and clear leadership. We will let you know as soon as we do. Kind regards Michael |
