Good morning Seeka growers and stakeholders. It’s a wonderful day outside. I hope this update finds you all safe and well.
We have continued to refine and settle our operations in the Covid-19 environment and post the Eurofins maturity testing debacle. Our sampling processes are now in place, along with same-day reporting. We are still struggling at the sheds for people and filling the people shortage will be an increasing focus for us through this week as we head to full maturity in the SunGold. People with EDI, Quality Control and Grading Supervision experience are invaluable right now.
Our innovation teams have been working hard. Their innovations will see the packing machines come back up to full capacity over the next week along with the ability to pack a higher layered percentage in the pack mix. Ultimately Zespri needs us to pack fruit into a configuration that the market wants rather than a pack type that is easy to put fruit into. The innovations made will do the double both increasing the safety of people in the shed and increase the machine capacity. Yet again the innovation team has come up with the answers when we have needed them most.
Out on the orchards picking gangs have implemented increased hygiene practices, the 2m distancing rule and are settling into harvest operations Covid-19 style.
There have been a couple of important wins in the last 48 hours, testing/clearance processes and shed capacity and people safety.
A number of sheds are taking a well-earned break for a day over the weekend, and probably enjoying a day off with nice weather for once.
